What Is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a natural and non-invasive form of health care, which concentrates on finding the cause of a physical problem, rather than just treating a symptom. This is accomplished by taking a thorough history of the patient, as well as their family health history, and performing a physical examination. This exam includes orthopedic and neurological testing. In some cases, x-rays may be taken.

Chiropractors specialize in locating and correcting a serious condition called a subluxation. A subluxation occurs when one or more of the 24 vertebrae of the spine are not moving in their proper and full range of motion. In other words, the vertebrae are "stuck". The chiropractor makes an adjustment to the subluxated vertebrae to restore normal motion, helping to relieve pain and stiffness, and prevent degeneration.

A chiropractor also has a direct effect on the central nervous system. The spinal column houses the spinal cord which, along with the brain, makes up the central nervous system. The central nervous system controls every organ, cell, and tissue in the human body. Subluxations create nerve interference to the central nervous system, which causes the body to loose it's ability to function properly. This eventually results in ill health. By making an adjustment, the chiropractor removes interference, allowing for an uninterrupted flow of nerve transmission.
